Introduction to Surya Namaskar A (Sun Salutation A)

This class introduces foundational yoga postures found in Surya Namaskar A (Sun Salutation A). These postures include:

  • Tadasana (Mountain Pose)

  • Urdhva Hastasana (Upward Hands Pose)

  • Uttanasana (Standing Forward Fold Pose) *Correction: NOT ‘Intense Stretch of the West’ as I stated in the video. That is the English name of a different posture (Paschimottanasana) :)

  • Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog Pose)

  • Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (Upward Facing Dog Pose) Tucked toes variation

  • Balasana (Child’s Pose)

Follow along for alignment and somatic cues, and then repeat Surya Namaskar A 5 times on your own. Spend time in each posture collecting information on the sensations in your body, mental chatter, energy of breath, and emotional state.
